Compulsory coding at school, Aprea’s proposal (Forza Italia): “Computer programming becomes the fourth basic skill of students”

In a note, Forza Italia deputy Valentina Aprea, head of the Education Department of the blue party, asks Minister Bianchi to personally commit to making the study of Coding compulsory at school.

Minister Bianchi has just stated that young people must be trained to use digital technology and not only to push them to respond to new needs but rather to anticipate them. We agree with these statements by the Minister, but if we really want to achieve these goals we need to govern the transformations of the fourth industrial revolution with timeliness and farsightedness with public choices, starting, first of all, with the introduction of the teaching of Coding since kindergarten and primary to foster the formation of computational thinking, digital creativity, and more generally, digital citizenship. Artificial intelligence, robotics and biotechnology are the new fields to be developed to foster a new era of work, improve rather than replace the conditions and opportunities of work“, Writes Aprea.

For this reason, Coding, computer programming, must be considered as the fourth basic skill for the new generations of students, together with reading, writing and arithmetic. We invite Minister Bianchi to foresee the progressive and gradual introduction of the study of computational thinking and Coding as part of the mandatory digital curriculum, starting from the next Budget Law, also implementing the unanimous approval on March 12, 2019 by of the Chamber of Deputies of motion 1-00117 which commits the government to adopt these measures. Forza Italia will urge Minister Bianchi to take timely decisions in this regard”, Concludes the blue deputy.
