San Vito di Cadore, 10 October 2021 – The Cadore is in shock for the maxi brake which involved the area of yesterday San Vito, in the province of Belluno. At around 6:30 pm a large rock broke away from the Croda Marcora, in the group of Sorapis which also dominates cortina d’Ampezzo. I video circulating on the web, taken up by the firefighters and also relaunched by the provincial councilor Massimo Bortoluzzi, they show the exact moment when the portion of the wall detaches from the mountain, ruining towards the valley as it raises a huge new dust.
The debris has descended towards the hamlet of Chiapuzza, in a fortunately uninhabited area, without reaching the houses. Yesterday the firefighters of the Cortina detachment and the volunteers of San Vito had already intervened on the spot for an initial inspection.

At the moment no person is involved or missing. Today the area will be flown over with the ‘Drago 81’ helicopter to verify the extent of the detachment. Specialized technicians on board. Reliefs are also scheduled detailed videos with the drones of the regional core of the Fire Brigade. In the latest update posted late in the evening by Bortoluzzi on Facebook, the councilor explained that “from monitoring we will understand if it is necessary to empty the gullies before spring”.
