The Pandora Papers reveal the offshore riches of two Italian football stars. The names of the national coach, Roberto Mancini and that of Gianluca Vialli, head of the Azzurri delegation to the last European Championships, appear in the secret archive revealed by the international journalistic investigation of the Icij consortium, in which L’Espresso also participates exclusively for the ‘Italy. Mancini is referred to in the documents as the shareholder of Bastian Asset Holdings, based in the tax haven of the British Virgin Islands (BVI). In the same papers, Vialli is instead qualified as the owner of another company, Crewborn Holdings, also registered in the BVI.

From the Pandora Papers emerge numerous details on the activities of the two former footballers, already teammates in Sampdoria, the Italian champion in 1991. It turns out that the Italian coach in 2009 had reported to an Italian trustee that he intended to ask for a tax shield for regularize his position with the tax authorities. According to documents consulted by L’Espresso, Mancini’s Caribbean company owned an aircraft. The offshore screen of Vialli, a British citizen for many years now, has instead served to manage a series of loans to Italian businesses.
