Two workers died in a nitrogen deposit of the hospital headquarters Humanitas of Rozzano, in the Milanese area. The two are employees of an external company. Their generalities are not known at the moment.

L’liquid nitrogen a cryogenic fluid: is maintained in the temperature range between approx -210 C e -195 C, and this very low temperature makes it dangerous.

The causes of the death of the two workers are being ascertained, freezing burns are hypothesized but it is not excluded that it is an intoxication. Nitrogen is non-toxic and has no odor, but in the event of a leak it creates one reduction of oxygen concentration in the air; with concentrations below 6% the person falls into a coma and dies.

The two workers were found unconscious in the hospital’s liquid nitrogen depot. The call to the emergency number 112 started at 11.26.

The helicopter rescue, two ambulances, the Fire Brigade and the Carabinieri intervened on the spot in the red code.
