This was reported during a radio interview by the director of the Spallanzani Institute in Rome. The opinion came a few hours after the official note from Pfizer and BioNTech which defined the drug against Covid-19 that they jointly developed “safe and well tolerated”. According to the companies, the same vaccine, in fact, induces a “robust” immune response in children aged between 5 and 11 years.
“It’s still too early. There are no unambiguous indications from the scientific community for vaccinating this sensitive population. We must avoid chasing the press releases of companies. Common sense says: let’s wait, let’s suspend, let’s see. “These are the words of Francesco Vaia, director of the Spallanzani Institute in Rome, who spoke during a debate on the anti-Covid vaccine for children, during a broadcast on Rai Radio1 . Vaia’s opinion comes after Pfizer and BioNTech have defined the drug against Covid-19 they jointly developed as “safe and well tolerated”. According to the companies, the same vaccine, in fact, induces a “robust” immune response in children of aged between 5 and 11. The announcement had come in the past few hours through a note, in which the first results emerged from a clinical study conducted on children under the age of 12 were presented.
Vaccine “not a magic potion”
Covid, Pfizer-BioNTech: “Safe vaccine for children between 5 and 11 years old”
“If the international and national regulatory authorities approve it and take responsibility, then yes,” Vaia continued in his speech. “I am a very strong supporter of the vaccine but it is not a magic potion. We must work as a company to solve the problems of contagion upstream ”, he then added.

Elena Bonetti, Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Family, also spoke on the subject, on the sidelines of an electoral initiative in Sesto Fiorentino (Florence). “The priority must remain that of schools in the presence: the only real weapon we have is to continue with even more conviction on the vaccination campaign starting from 12-year-old children,” he said. And, precisely with regard to the vaccination hypothesis also for children aged 5 to 11, Bonetti specified that “the answer must be given by medicine: when the vaccines are deemed safe, and there is the definitive go-ahead from the point of view of science, of medicine, I believe that in general vaccinations are the main tools to combat epidemics, in this case a dramatic pandemic like that of Covid ”, he concluded.
