Milan – “The dialogues are characterized by the repeated and free use of vulgar expressions, of scurrility and profanity, of offenses against confessions and religious sentiments “. With this motivation the Authority for the guarantees in communications (Agcom) has imposed one fine of 62,500 euros to Walt Disney Company Italia, based in via Ferrante Aporti, in Milan, for the broadcast of the episode “Jesus, Joseph and Mary “from the animated series” Family Guy “. In the episode broadcast between 18 and 18.20 on 12 March last on the Fox channel of the Sky platform, the character of Peter Griffin, father of the family, told the story of Christmas and the Immaculate Conception using the ironic and irreverent tone that is the key to the well-known American series. But for the president of Agcom, Giacomo Lasorella, some steps went well beyond the limits imposed by the Code of media and minor self-regulation (articles 2.5 and 3), generating a violation “of high entity when compared to the prejudice to physical development, psychic and moral of the listening minor “.
Disney defended itself by arguing that the audience figures of that afternoon show that “the spectators of the age group 4-17 were 0.8% of the Italian spectators of that age group at that moment in front of the television, while none of the spectators who followed the episode was less than 14 years old. ” However, the company admitted that some passages contained “expressions presenting critical profiles”. Upon receipt of the dispute, Disney suspended the broadcast of reruns of the episode and reclassified the series by applying the VM14 classification (forbidden to minors under 14) starting from April 29, 2021. Countermeasures that were not enough to avoid the heavy penalty, equal to two and a half times the minimum fine of 25 thousand euros.
