The expected disturbance on Lombardy and Milan has arrived. From 7pm it rains heavily over the whole region, with city streets and underpasses starting to flood and traffic proceeding slowly. But the first victims of the wave of bad weather were the airports: the Linate and Malpensa runways were filled with water in a few minutes making take-offs and landings impossible. At the Varesotto airport, whose operation was suspended at least until 11pm, eight flights were diverted to Bergamo Orio al Serio and Turin, three from Linate. In Malpensa, in particular, almost 90 mm of water fell in just over an hour and a half, a measure that exceeds the average in April and May, when there were 75 mm of rain per month, paralyzing the area Cargo, where they have been twenty people evacuated with rafting boats, and the runway of Terminal 1. In fact, several fire brigade teams and river rescue specialists operated at the airport: problems were recorded at the extra Shengen customs, closed and then partially reopened, to allow passengers to disembark. a flight.
The firefighters, in the Malpensa area, intervened with different teams, in some flooded streets not far from Terminal 1: At least ten people were rescued from trapped in cars submerged by rain. Rescuers also sifted through many vehicles that were completely covered by the incredible body of water.
