The theft in a school in the Forlanini area: 100 square meters of material taken away. There is no waterproofing and there is a risk of rain

The 122 children of the nursery school in via Meleri, in the Forlanini area of Milan, stayed at home this morning, because their kindergarten could not accommodate them since a large portion of the roof, made of copper, was stolen.

The thieves took away, as the Municipality announced, a portion of 100 square meters. Yesterday afternoon some employees of the nursery school became aware of the theft and became suspicious when they saw parts of the roof in the garden. The theft probably took place in recent days but no one had noticed it because the gutters remained intact and nothing could be seen from the garden.

The thieves stole the part of the copper roof, probably to resell it, and left the wooden beams exposed: therefore lacking the waterproofing, the Municipality decided to leave the children at home as rain is expected in the city today. At the moment the workers are already on site to create a temporary waterproofing, which will allow the children to return, probably in the next few days, to the nursery school. Then later a structural intervention will be planned to restore the roof covering.
