“I got up, I had coffee, I lit a cigarette and everything exploded”, he had hotly told the rescuers who had extracted him, in very serious conditions, from the rubble of the building in via Atteone 136 in Torre Angela, went to fire on Tuesday morning. With widespread burns, Mario Delle Cave, 67 year old resident on the third floor of the building, did not make it, he died at the Sant’Eugenio.

Delle Cave had been found conscious, among the rubble, in the courtyard. Brought to Sant’Eugenio in red code with burns on 70 percent of his body, he was subjected to several cycles of hyperbaric chamber. But the treatments were useless.

A gas cylinder was found inside his apartment. The carabinieri of Tor Bella Monaca already two days ago had listened to the ex-girlfriend who about six months ago would have reported him for stalking but the two had no contact for some time.
The outcome of the investigations into the causes of the fire is awaited, no hypothesis is excluded, including a possible self-harming gesture. The prosecutor has opened a file for negligent fire.
