ROME – What is the vaccine dose “Booster”? This is explained by the new circular issued by Giovanni Rezza, director of the Ministry of Health.
“Per dose “booster” – writes the Ministry of Health – it means a booster dose after the completion of the primary vaccination cycle, after a certain time interval, administered in order to maintain or restore an adequate level of immune response over time, in particular in populations characterized by from a high risk, due to frail conditions associated with the development of serious or even fatal disease, or due to occupational exposure.
The dose “booster” should be administered after at least six months from the last dose “.
“At the moment – continues the Ministry – based on the indications of the CTS, it is considered priority the administration of the additional dose in the transplanted and immunocompromised subjects.
Without prejudice to the priority of achieving high vaccination coverage with the completion of currently authorized courses, the strategy for administering a dose “booster“M-RNA vaccine (Comirnaty of BioNTech / Pfizer and Spikevax of Moderna) in favor of further groups target, starting with those mentioned above – concludes Giovanni Rezza – taking into account the scientific evidence and the evolution of the epidemiological scenario “.
