ROME – Backpacks on the shoulders and mask to hide the emotion of the first day. The most extroverted pupils joke with their classmates, the most timid shake the hands of mum and dad until the bell rings. It is the first day of school and at the comprehensive school ‘Guglielmo Pallavicini’ in Rome the fears of last year are accompanied by a new serenity. The Institute, in fact, has been identified by ASL Roma 2 as a sentinel school to participate in the screening campaign that provides salivary molecular swabs for pupils who want to join on a voluntary basis, with the consent of the families.. Salivary molecular tests will be performed every 15 days, on a sample of over a thousand students, divided between primary and lower secondary school.
“Surely this measure allows us to start again with more confidence– comments to Dire Alessandro Di Iorio, vice president and Covid contact person of the institute- last year it was very difficult. We have had many positives among both pupils and teachers. Now with screening and vaccines we are more serene. The adhesion rate to the campaign is high, and almost all teachers have been vaccinated. This year we have the tools to be much calmer ”.
The campaign will start tomorrow with the third classes and will then extend to the whole complex throughout the year. The saliva sample, collected by families using a special kit, will be delivered to the collection points and then analyzed by the Pertini laboratory. The results will be communicated by email from the ASL to the families of the students who participated in the campaign. “This initiative makes us feel safer– explains a parent- My son also got vaccinated, but obviously the fact that they are tested makes us face this year with more serenity“. At 9 in front of the school it is the turn of entry of the first classes. “For our children, the campaign hasn’t started yet– explain some mothers- but as soon as we have the chance we will participate without a doubt ”.
