RIVER VENETO – Giuseppe Rui he lost mum and dad in a few days. The Covid has compromised two health situations, those of the 89-year-old Aldo Rui and his wife Luigia Momentè (84 years old), already complex and debilitating in less than a week. They were both vaccinated, the two elderly spouses from Fiume Veneto who died at the hospital in Pordenone. For this reason, Giuseppe, the couple’s son and a civil protection volunteer in the municipal area, could also be guided by discouragement, anger. Instead, before reminding his parents with emotion that the disease has taken away from him, he wants to launch an appeal, also revealing an important detail. «My parents are gone – he explains – and they took the Coronavirus from an unvaccinated person who has been in contact with them. They were immunized, but already seriously ill and tested. They both were. Covid was just the latest “blow”. This is why I want to say to everyone: get vaccinated, do it for your loved ones. Maybe not just for you, but to protect those you love. My parents didn’t make it for other reasons ».

Aldo Rui, who died Saturday evening at the hospital in Pordenone, and Luigia Momentè, who died at the beginning of last week, were according to their son “very simple people and well-liked by everyone”. Before retirement Aldo worked at the former Ideal Standard, in Orcenico Inferiore (Zoppola). «But his passion was sport: football and bowls in particular. He had also founded an association, the “Club Lanterna”, to preserve the traditions of the past. He participated in the events of the past, such as the bonfires of the Epiphany or the burning of the vecia. He dressed as Santa Claus, I still have his dress here – his son Giuseppe always says -. My mother, on the other hand, during the same events was the Befana. They are very beautiful memories, of a happy family ». Aldo Rui was from Fiume Veneto, Luigia Momentè from Bannia. They had been together for a lifetime and had settled for decades in via Bassi, in the municipal capital.
Luigia Momentè was known for having worked for many years in schools as a janitor. His face was recognized and recognizable by many generations of young students. The couple also left a daughter, Loretta, owner of a salon and hairdresser. The funeral of Aldo and Luigia has not yet been set: we want to wait for a relative who was assisting them to negativize the Covid that hit her like the two spouses, but with lower consequences.
