Five candidates left of Giuseppe Sala, none to the right of the challenger Luca Bernardo. It will probably be the two of them who will compete in the ballot for the chair of mayor of Milan, in an election with 13 candidates and even 28 symbols on the ballot that will be delivered to voters at the beginning of October. A proliferation of lists probably favored by the reduction, due to Covid, of the number of signatures necessary to present them. Eight are those connected to the outgoing mayor. The Democratic Party, led by the councilor Pierfrancesco Maran and by the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo, ranks among others also the current president of the city council Lamberto Bertolè, outgoing directors Filippo Barberis ed Elena Buscemi, Besides Sarah Brizzolara, ambientalista dei Fridays for Future, Monica Romano, who aims to become the first transgender woman on the city council, and the Roma actress and activist Dijana Pavlovic. Allied to the Democratic Party are the civic list Beppe Sala mayor, i Radicals, who nominate the former director of the San Vittore prison Luigi Pagano, i Reformists (with the former cyclist Gianni Bugno and Alberto Veronesi, conductor and son of the oncologist Umberto), Milan in Health (among others on the list is Valentina Massa, researcher of the state team who developed the molecular salivary swabs), United Milan, Green Europe e Volt.
Center-right united in support of Luca Bernardo, the pediatrician of the Fatebenefratelli chosen after the thousand difficulties to converge on a name and the refusal of the former mayor Gabriele Albertini. Brothers of Italy has chosen the founder and editorial director of Free Vittorio Feltri, while there will not be one of the deans of Palazzo Marino, the current regional councilor Riccardo De Corato. In the end, the secretary Matteo Salvini decided not to run in the League: the president of Federfarma Lombardia will lead the list in his place Annarosa Racca. Forza Italia, after having tested the availability of Adriano Galliani, places a trident of Fabrizio De Pasquale, current group leader in the city council, Gianluca Comazzi, group leader at Pirellone as well as councilor at Palazzo Marino, and the former president of Municipality 7 Marco Bestetti. They complete the coalition Popular Milan of the former minister Maurizio Lupi, the European Liberal Party it’s a civic list linked to Bernardo.
M5S mayoral candidate is the manager Layla Pavone, among other things former independent member of the board of directors of Seif, the publisher of the Fatto Quotidiano. It will lead the five star list Elena Sironi, the outgoing councilor of Municipality 4 initially indicated by the base as a candidate for mayor. To the left of Sala stands out Milan in the Municipality, the formation of the historic city councilor Basilio Rizzo who, for the first time in almost forty years, has chosen not to run. Milano in Comune presents as leaders Patrizia Bedori, former M5S city councilor, and supports together with Environmentalist Civic the architect’s candidacy for mayor Gabriele Mariani. Also to the left of the outgoing mayor there are four other candidates: Bianca Tedone for Power to the People, Marco Muggiani for the Italian Communist Party, Alessandro Pascale for the Communist Party (that of Marco Rizzo) e Christmas Azzaretto for the Communist Workers’ Party. Albertini’s former councilor Giorgio Goggi represents the Socialists and Liberals, Gianluca Paragone runs for his Italexit movement, anti-euro and against the green pass, Mauro Festa for the gay party, Bryant Biavaschi for the civic list Milan starts here and the doctor Teodosio De Bonis for the 3V Movement, admittedly no vax.
