Tension and violence. From Milan to Naples the “No Pass” people choose the square

A few thousand people in 80 Italian squares. Protests resulted in many cases in unauthorized marches through the streets of the cities. With Forza Nuova and Casapound the voice of many megaphones and at the head of several snakes. Chants and slogans against the “liberticide” green pass, insults against Prime Minister Draghi, against extraordinary commissioner Figliuolo. So much anger against journalists. «Freedom, freedom», «No green pass, no vaccine», «No blackmail». And again: “Shame, the government is doing terrorism.” The refrains are loudly shouted in the squares of Milan and Rome, but the unitary “rebellion” against the restrictions imposed by the vaccine passport – mandatory since August 6 for travel, restaurants, sports and indoor venues – which was announced through a Telegram channel from the movement that calls itself “Enough dictatorship”, it also touched Turin, Naples, Florence, Bari and the smaller towns. “The right to demonstrate is enshrined in the Constitution: I am for freedom of thought, speech and demonstration, so they do well to raise their voices,” says the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini.

Protesters mostly without masks, admittedly not vaccinated because No Vax. Megaphones and banners. Many insults to reporters: “Sold, terrorists,” is the refrain. Guilty, according to the anti green pass front, of distorted information on vaccines. “Assassins, assassins, assassins”, the 1,500 protesters shout from Piazza del Popolo in Rome, in a chorus of protests against Prime Minister Mario Draghi and against the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, who are depicted in some T-shirts behind bars. A few moments of disorder with the intervention of armored vehicles to contain the demonstrators. Here too the far right of Forza Nuova – who led the march towards the Rai headquarters in Piazza Mazzini – and Casapound: «We participate in these demonstrations as citizens, without our symbols. I hope they are popular protests and that they are not exploited ”, specify by Casapound.

From megaphones you can hear phrases like this: “The vaccination campaign is yet another way of the state to wash its conscience: they continue to attribute the blame for the health and social crisis to the choices of individuals.” Different cities, same banners: «United for freedom of choice against all discrimination». “No to vaccine segregation”. In Milan in Piazza Duomo you can see stars of David and green passes compared to swastikas: on many signs displayed by the demonstrators there is the analogy with racial discrimination: “Not vaccinated = Jews”. Same direction in Genoa, a thousand people and a lot of evocative symbolism of the darkest years. Tension with journalists.

In Naples, chants above all against the premier and in favor of freedom of choice. A thousand people in the square also in Brescia. Three thousand in Turin. Here too the movements of the far right – but also some exponents of the social centers – who directed the procession towards the local Rai headquarters. About a hundred people in Pescara, where the garrison has turned into an unauthorized procession through the streets of the center. And where local representatives of Forza Italia who were in the square to collect signatures for the referendum on justice were not only verbally attacked in their gazebo. The intervention of the police is necessary: «Solidarity and closeness to the leaders and militants of Fi attacked by a group of no vax – writes Minister Mariastella Gelmini – Demonstrations are allowed, violence and excesses are not. We strongly reaffirm our convictions: yes to the green pass, an instrument of freedom ».
