From Manerbio to the Milan catwalks: “Bayo” dreams of a future in fashion

When it comes to fashion and competitions, for those who observe from the outside the impression is almost always the same: a distant world, almost unattainable, of perfection and excesses; models who parade wearing trendy clothes and neutral expressions, crystallized figures, icons of beauty before people. Speaking with Mbaye Diaw, “Bayo” for friends, it took a few seconds to shatter every stereotype: 24 years (25 in October, ed) came to the editorial office with a clean face and smiling eyes, the desire to tell about himself seasoned with a pinch of shyness, a heart full of dreams (but also a head firmly on his shoulders) filled with the beautiful experience on the catwalk of the Miss contest and Mister Terme di Boario.

Originally from Senegal (he arrived in Manerbio with his family when he was three and a half years old and has been officially an Italian citizen for two years: “It was time!”, He stressed laughing), he approached the world of fashion shortly before the pandemic, starting to parading and posing for some shooting through a Milan agency, shooting what he had stopped as a child. “My dad works for a company that produces clothing and as a child he sometimes made me do small photo shoots and some fashion shows – he said – I had stopped to devote myself to something else until a year and a half ago they contacted me from the agency saying that they had seen my profile, that they were interested and that they wanted me to enter the world of fashion ».

And so, as far as the emergency allowed, the professional adventure began, the first fashion shows in Milan, the shooting for Levi’s and Yaselle, stuck with the work in a company in Bassano Bresciano and the passion for sport: motorcycles, horseback riding, skiing, mountaineering and so on and so forth, in addition to the competitive commitment in football, in Pavone, all accompanied by a healthy lifestyle.

Then a few months ago the proposal, between one shot and another. «Emanuele Archiati, seeing me on the field, threw it there“ Why don’t you participate in Miss and Mister Terme di Boario? For me you would be perfect ”- he continued – I said to myself why not? It is the first beauty contest I do, at most I enjoy myself and do something new ». After the castings, the path towards the evening that on Saturday crowned the winners of 2021 has begun. One title only touched, “Bayo” was placed among the last three finalists, but the experience lived was more than rewarding on a professional level and human. “It is a totally different world from that of fashion shows, where obviously first of all the dress is enhanced – he said – In Milan you have to parade in a certain way, without smiling: on this occasion, however, your personality counts. your expression and your way of moving. I liked it because I felt free to be myself. Then I met a lot of people: I was a bit ‘the latest arrival, the other participants were already “sailed” but they were very kind, they explained everything to me, how it worked and how I had to do it. And so the conductors Adelino Ziliani and Sara Croce, whom I thank: they treated me like God giving me advice and encouragement ».

If the crown has not arrived, the 24-year-old model still has the desire to get involved, to realize her goals and make a name for herself in the fashion world, thanks to the support of friends, parents and the former model and now photographer Manuel Scrima. He promises nothing but to be himself and to keep striving to achieve his greatest dream. Which? “Parade for” King Giorgio “(Giorgio Armani, ed)!».
