He will not be a candidate directly, but he will be on the front line to support the only civic list in support of Roberto Gualtieri. Alessandro Onorato swears not to aim for armchairs, but will strive for the success of the civic of the center-left candidate. In the last week his name has established itself in the Roman electoral campaign.

Group leader of the Marchini List, the 40-year-old from Ostia had lost track. Combative city councilor, he seemed ready to bid farewell to politics. To make him change his mind Gualtieri and his project, “the only one capable of relaunching Rome”. Wednesday the official presentation of the civic list. We wanted to ask him about the project that sees him at the forefront and that could also be the tip of the balance of the next administrative. Yes, because the civic of Gualtieri is called to remove votes from the center, from the project of Carlo Calenda (who just happened this morning attacked the proliferation of lists, ed) and further to the left to the Five Star Movement. Professionals, young people and parts of society will form the parterre of the list.

Alessandro Onorato became active again on the Roman political scene after a long time. What happened to it?

In addition to the city council I have made a second daughter. A gift from God. Also for this reason in the future I will no longer be able to devote myself full time to politics. But the passion never goes away.

We remember her as the engine and main promoter of the Marchini project, leader of a series of young people. What remains of that project today?

We have done something unique and unrepeatable. Starting from nothing and facing two elections against all the other parties at the time of their consensus was something unique. Now off to young people and professionals, many of whom worked on our industrial plan for Rona, ready to field concrete proposals.

In what do you think Virginia Raggi’s project was particularly lacking?

Alfio’s political analysis was right. To be reborn, Rome had to free itself from the old consociativism and not rely on the sterile and unreal Grillina utopia. The facts proved him right. The degradation and decline of Rome do not need comments and today finally in Rome Gualtieri has understood that the time has come to truly open up to the competences of civil society.

However, the opposition also appeared to be on the run, don’t you think?

Being in the city council in recent years I must admit made us regret Marino where at least there was something and someone to oppose.

What would you save from the Raggi experience?

Enrico Stefano’s work on mobility. And a couple of commission presidents who have tried to bring order to important issues such as urban planning, public works, social services.

Are you sorry you sent Marino home? Gualtieri, for example, made amends.

Our project was against the historical consociativism where during the day they quarreled and at night they shared everything. And Marino himself in the end, as we have seen, was not the master of his destiny and in any case could not have had a radical impact.

So no regrets?
No. Yet Marino had made a good start. We collected over 15,000 signatures for proposals for popular resolutions.
The Mayor received us publicly for their deposit and made a commitment for 5 of them. But then, as mentioned, he did not keep that commitment.

Convinced by Gualtieri’s project. What does it have more than Michetti and Calenda?

A civic force either presents itself on its own and today without the availability of Alfio’s leadership is no longer possible, or it supports the more open, competent, uniting and credible mayor. And Gualtieri proved all this with facts. First in Europe and then as super minister of the economy in one of the most dramatic periods in the history of our country.

Speaking of Calenda, the Action leader’s project appears similar, in several respects, to that of Alfio Marchini in 2013 and 2016. Do you agree?

We have done something unique and unrepeatable by taking 250,000 votes in two elections with all parties at their highest consensus. Our consensus for the first time in the history of a civic took votes in both center-left and center-right sides. Calenda was born as a minister of the PD and is today a European parliamentarian elected with the votes of the PD.

Is it true that you met Calenda?

Yes once. Gualtieri’s program and unifying force seemed more convincing and more solid

What was your impression?

I gave myself a code of behavior in this campaign: do not talk about the other candidates but only about programs and how to implement them and concentrate to support the Civic List of Gualtieri as much as possible

It will animate the civic list of Gualtieri. Will he be a headhunter?

I will spend with the usual passion to convince the best to take the field. Those capable who reject the logic of the parties, silent but industrious.

What profiles are you looking for to be part of it?

Professionals, entrepreneurs, students, social workers, representatives of the world of sport, culture, volunteering. Great connoisseurs of the neighborhoods. Loaded people who do not give up and know what to do.

Personality of civil society, can you give us some names?

Everyone is focused on the names. Next Wednesday there will be the presentation and we will know something more. Symbolically I can point out two very young Trabucco, 27 years old who has already served as a councilor with the civic list of Marchini in 4 municipalities and Federico Lobuono. 2 young people who represent a capable, prepared youth who want to influence change.

What will you ask Gualtieri?

“Rome does not save it a single man in charge. We need the competence and passion of over 100 women and men able to work as a team. And Roberto is able to guarantee this process. And we have entrusted Gualtieri with 100 proposals that can be implemented in the first 100 days that must give a clear sign of rebirth We want a normal, efficient, civilized Rome.

Tell us 3 priorities?

Decor, economic revival, road safety.

What do you ask for the decor?

The city is dirty because it is poorly cleaned or not cleaned at all, an efficiency revolution is needed. Ama, subcontractors, garden service. Citizens must know every park, garden, street who is really entrusted with cleaning and maintenance. Citizen participation is the greatest guarantee of efficiency. Everyone must rediscover the pride of working for Rome and whoever makes a mistake pays.

And then?

Private participation in the maintenance of green spaces. It does not mean giving up the right of citizens since they pay taxes. But to those who want to commit themselves to give space and facilities

A few examples?

The maintenance of the gardens in Piazza Cavour is done by those who built and manages the boxes under the square. Just go there to see that they are gorgeous. And at Ponte Milvio there is always a private individual who, in exchange for a little visibility, has restored beauty and decorum. Rome has an infinite extension and the relationship between public and private must be strong.

What do you intend to propose for the economic relaunch?

Focus on high-end tourism. By improving city services. Rome must be clean, fragrant, the opposite of today. It must be welcoming. Attracting large international investors to make Rome a European capital. Develop a healthy urbanism, urban regeneration, energy efficiency, color plan. Rediscover the beauty. And then investing in culture, music, science.

Come?

We will create a municipal house of Music with rehearsal rooms, recording studios and free meeting spaces to stimulate young talents to get involved. After all we are the city that is churning out great singers I think of Ultimo, Paradiso, Achille Lauro, Maneskin, Coez, Gazzelle, Elodie. And a Municipal StartUp House to help the many Roman brains not to flee to Milan or abroad and start their entrepreneurial initiative where they were born and raised.

Road safety, on the other hand, is a strange priority, which few, if any, speak of …

The streets, the intersections are Russian roulette. Redesigning the great roads and neighborhoods to make pedestrians, cyclists and motorists safe is an obligatory challenge. And then we must focus on intelligent traffic lights, making Rome a Smart city.

What is the goal you set yourself?

It will be a big surprise. We are being called by many people who want to actively participate. I am very confident.

However, she will not be among the candidates. Should we expect some other kind of future assignment?

If I had been looking for seats I would have applied.

In conclusion. Is it possible that Rome had to turn, in the three most important candidacies against Virginia Raggi, to personalities outside the Roman ruling class? Is the Roman ruling class so poor?

Five years ago in order not to let us win, all the big names took to the field. Today the interest and visibility is much less and only Gualtieri who is Roman is among the big names who had the courage to get involved.
