The carabinieri of the Ponzano Romano station, together with the forestry carabinieri of Sant’Oreste, discovered an illegal breeding with 110 examples of husky dogs in conditions of abuse and neglect in a small villa on the outskirts of Rome. The carabinieri of the local station had long suspected that the private home, a building equipped with alarm and protection systems in the open countryside, was actually an illegal farm. The prolonged cries of the animals, heard above all at night, had attracted the first attention of the nearby residents. but to reinforce the doubts was the complaint of an association for the environmental and animal protection of Rome, who reported the possible ill-treatment to the carabinieri competent for the territory.
16 enclosures with 82 huskies inside were discovered outside the villa. The spaces were very small to contain such a large number of animals, with the further aggravating circumstance that they lacked running water to water the animals, especially with the very high temperatures of these days. It was also found that the animals had not been given food for some time. There was a dog in the house that had been dead for days. Another 29 dogs saved in cramped cages that, like all the others, were sent into custody, awaiting adoption. The entire property is seized. The owner’s complaint to the Rieti Public Prosecutor’s Office for mistreatment of animals and possession of animals in conditions incompatible with their nature has been triggered.
