A truck coming from Switzerland and headed to Italy state rejected at the customs of Ponte Chiasso because the checks on the cargo of iron scrap have highlighted abnormal levels of radioactivity in the material, consisting of pieces of metal and leftovers from iron processing. The cargo was blocked by the officials of the Customs Agency after the checks carried out at the Ponte Chiasso crossing. the prefect of Como was alerted Andrea Polichetti and activated the specific security protocol. The truck was isolated in a well-demarcated area and forbidden to unqualified personnel.
All the authorities responsible for environmental and population safety and protection, the prefecture and the ARPA, the Environmental Protection Agency, were alerted. The prefect of Como, in agreement with the Arpa experts, has arranged to reject the load to the person responsible for sending it to Italy, at his expense. The measure will be carried out by the officials of Ponte Chiasso. The company will have to remove the source of risk from the Italian customs areas quickly and with all the necessary precautions, notifying the Swiss customs authority of the operations.
