Liguria, motorway chaos: the truck drivers in the queue get off the trucks in protest

Spontaneous protest of truck drivers put to the test by the constant traffic jams for works and inspections on the Liguria motorway network. Exasperated by the queues, which on 1 July reached several kilometers in several sections of the Genoa node, many truck drivers have decided to get off the trucks thus staging an incisive remonstrance.

To explain the reasons for the gesture is Fiap unit transport: «Abandoning the vehicle – says Giuseppe Tagnochetti, coordinator of the organization – is an extreme act. With kilometers of queues on all the main Ligurian motorway routes, with destination or origin Genoa, and with the largest Italian port under siege by traffic jams that completely block the gates, among the drivers of heavy vehicles, stopped for hours under the sun, we are sending a tam-tam: get off the trucks ».

“After months of traffic jams and queues – continues Tagnochetti – with works that should have been scheduled over the years, as part of an ordinary maintenance, and were instead concentrated on the Genoese and Ligurian knots causing its collapse, with serious danger to safety road and a devastation of the production levels of the economic and transport system, the vessel is now full and the situation is beyond any control, with the consequent risks for anyone who ventures onto the motorway and whose responsibility someone will have to bear ”.

The first driver to protest was stopped on the A7 Genoa-Milan near Arquata Scrivia. After a long wait, stopped in the queue, he warned the owner of the company he works for and got off the truck. Little by little the protest spread and the truck drivers involved in the demonstration became many.
