It looks like we won’t be able to see what they had planned for DC fans Ava DuVernay is James Wan con New Gods e lo spin-off di Aquaman The Trench.
Both films have in fact been removed from projects in the works for the studios, as announced in an official statement by the two companies: “As part of our DC catalog, some titles in development such as New Gods and The Trench will not move forward. We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration throughout this time, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with both of them for more stories set in the DC world. The projects will remain in their skilled hands should there be an opportunity to work on them again in the future“.
Regarding The Trench, it seems that the actual interest of the public for other adventures set in the Kingdom of Atlantis without strong connections with Aquaman has been taken into consideration, also evaluating the streaming option on HBO Max, but being more of a standalone it was decided to leave to lose.
New Gods was in development since 2018, and would have had a very complex story, but given Darkseid’s renewed presence in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it was decided to wait and let more time pass between one appearance and another of the famous villain.
However, as indicated by the press release, it is not certain that in the future one or both projects cannot be developed againi, but for now, it seems that we want to focus on something else.
Both DuVernay and Wan will still remain in DC thanks to the TV series by The CW Naomi and the sequel to Aquaman.
