When we talk about “addiction” we imagine something harmful, perhaps forbidden and often far from us. Apart from cigarettes, we hardly believe that foods or other factors are addictive.
Usually compared to the use of drugs, addiction is actually a very broad concept. It embraces different areas of the life of each of us, even to the emotional one.
By limiting ourselves to what we drink and eat, there is actually one drink that we may not be able to give up. It is the most loved and consumed in the world, perhaps second only to tea. What are we referring to? At the coffee of course.
Awakening first of all
Famous for its energizing properties and its exciting effect, coffee is a must when you wake up and immediately after lunch. How could we start the day without a cup of what appears to be a real wake-up call for the body? Long or short, classic or spotted, whichever way you take it, it’s still a moment of intense pleasure. However, like all good things, too much coffee can have negative consequences on our body. In fact, beware of these apparently harmless symptoms of an addiction that everyone underestimates: that of caffeine. Let’s try to understand more.
Beware of these seemingly harmless symptoms of an addiction that everyone underestimates
Let’s start by saying that we can talk about addiction where there is abuse, by which we mean the consumption of at least 5 cups a day.
When from the abuse of passes to abstinence, here is that our body begins to send us signals because it requires the intake of caffeine. Headache, nausea, rapid heartbeat, trouble concentrating, sleep disturbances and irritability. In a previous article (link here) we talked about the contraindications of coffee for those suffering from stress. Both in this and in the case of excessive consumption followed by abstinence, one of the effects is precisely the increase in anxiety and heart rate.
If we find that we have some or all of these symptoms, in addition to realizing that we have too much coffee, we try to moderate the quantities. Sleep, mood, heartbeat and perhaps even stomach will be positively affected.
