“Use the funds of the NRP for Sicily to reorganize the regional health system, strengthening the medicine of the territory, from home assistance to homes and community hospitals”. This is the position with which the Sicilian CISL, represented by the General Secretaries of the CISL, Sebastiano Cappuccio, and of the CISL Public Function, Paolo Montera, presented itself to the debate with the Councilor for Health, Ruggero Razza, on the most urgent issues concerning the Sicilian health.
“This is – say the two trade unionists – the strategy that we believe to be the right one to face the persistence of the pandemic emergency from Covid-19 without further burdening the hospitals and, above all, without failing to treat patients with other pathologies” . In particular, Cappuccio and Montera asked for precise answers on the funds to be allocated to the construction of community hospitals in Sicily, which perform an “intermediate” function between home and hospitalization in order to relieve the hospital of low complexity services. Overall, according to needs, there should be 99 in the region, with a first activation, based on the allocated amounts, of 31 structures. The national government plan, among other things, provides for up to 30,000 new hires for this objective, in the various professional figures, to be allocated to the territories by 2026.
“Having reopened the discussion, we immediately scheduled the next meeting for Wednesday 28 July in order to continue to discuss the most urgent issues concerning the sector and to press for action to be taken in time. Considering the trend of new infections from Covid-19, which is worrying due to the spread of variants such as the Delta, we expect – conclude Cappuccio and Montera – that the Region will first of all strengthen the vaccination campaign and organize itself in time to strengthen the health system and do not send hospitals back to suffering ”.
