From 11 to 13 June they meet at the Auditorium Parco della Musica writers, readers, editors, in the hybrid formula of a program that sees many meetings in the presence and some with the authors connected live from their country, from their study: in the technological format that the pandemic has made familiar to millions of Italians, involved in the distance learning of their children and with their work in smart working. Above all, the stories, the reflections, the words return to try to better understand the world that is already complex, has become even more complicated.

This edition of Books Like is part of a shared festival project that will see the new editions of Portici di Carta in Turin and Lungomare di Libri in Bari take place in the coming weeks.

“We are restarting with a new season after a complex period that has kept us away. We are happy to bring the writers, readers and books back to the Auditorium in an awaited live event. With Books like, but also with the summer concerts in the cavea and the Biodivercity project in the pedestrian area, we return the Parco della Musica to the city, which becomes a physical space for meeting and exchange “, declares the CEO of the Musica per Roma Foundation Daniele Pittèri.

Books like this streamlined version, compared to the usual editions with over one hundred meetings, asked some international authors to tell about their new books, in many cases completed in this very special year and a half. Here then are the long-awaited novels by Javier Cercas, Emmanuel Carrère, Colum McCann, Elvira Lindo, Erica Jong’s autobiography, Suketu Mehta’s on the migrant condition, poems by Manuel Vilas.

No one now doubts the centrality of science in our lives and books as he asked the scientist and life senator Elena Cattaneo to present her essay Armed with science, to the physicist Carlo Rovelli and to the authors and hosts of Radio3 Scienza to explain ” science”.

The philosophers Donatella Di Cesare and Roberto Esposito have the task of explaining how the pandemic crisis has accelerated the centrality of biopolitics, transformed democracies and our lives.

The meetings with Alberto Angela and the dialogue between Francesco Rutelli and Andrea Carandini are dedicated to Rome, its past and its future.

The role of information in this year and a half of the pandemic will be at the center of the meeting with Diego Bianchi, Andrea Salerno and Francesca Schianchi. Back to Books like Zerocalcare, protagonist of the meeting How stories are told.

As always in Libri as there are many direct dialogues – without moderator – two-part conversations on writing and on the stories that literature tells: Nicola Lagioia and Antonella Lattanzi, Edoardo Albinati and Walter Siti, Michele Serra and Francesco Piccolo, Emanuele Coccia and Melania Mazzucco, Silvia Avallone and Camilla Boniardi, Giulio Ferroni and Laura Minervini.

Some friends of the festival come back as guests Alberto Angela (Like Nero. Hell over Rome) e Vito Mancuso (About the meaning of life). With Elena Cattaneo are the three guests who will each give a lesson.

The inauguration of Libri Come

On Friday 11 June, at 6 pm, the state of health of reading and publishing is at the center of the meeting that inaugurates the exhibition. Starring the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, the publishers Sandro Ferri (and / or), Ricardo Franco Levi (AIE), Isabella Ferretti (66thand2nd), Giuseppe Laterza and with Angelo Piero Cappello (Center for books and reading), Ilaria Milana (bookseller) and Marina Pugliano (translators union).

In the formulas of the reading, between literary and musical tale, the program is completed by the meetings with Antonio Manzini (Come Rocco Schiavone), with Giuliano Sangiorgi (Il tempo di unativo), with Ernesto Assante and Gino Castaldo (Like Lucio Dalla) and with the singer-songwriter Sergio Cammariere. Two shows are also on the bill: the Dante sung by the Italian Popular Orchestra by Ambrogio Sparagna and Viaggio in Italia by Gigi De Rienzo, a foray into the Italian musical heritage animated by the same spirit of foreign travelers who visited the places of art of our country at the time of the Grand Tour.

Participating in books are also Annalena Benini, Lara Crinò, Silvia Bencivelli, Elena Del Drago, Pietro Del Soldà, Paolo Di Paolo, Loredana Lipperini, Mariarosa Mancuso, Francesca Mannocchi, Marco Motta, Matteo Nucci, Simonetta Sciandivasci, Tullio Sorrentino, Elena Stancanelli, Giorgio Zanchini.

To enrich the program of books such as the show Tunnel by photographer Lorenzo Pesce, set up in the external portico of the Auditorium. A reflection on the period of the pandemic seen from the eyes of adolescents. Twenty shots to tell the story, the desires, the dreams of a generation that faced an unprecedented situation in the crucial period of its training.

Finally, the events dedicated to the world of plants made in collaboration with the Festival of greenery and landscape are worthy of note. Four “green” meetings in the pedestrian area of the Parco della Musica where Biodivercity is set up until 28 September, an installation of 1000 square meters that combines art, nature and architecture.
