“Where are our loved ones?” –

The recovery of the coffins ended up in the sea after the collapse of a section of the cemetery of Camogli resumed on Tuesday morning. And while the relatives of the deceased are apprehensive to understand if the coffins of their loved ones have collapsed, unfortunately from the first surveys it is understood that probably not all the burials will be recovered and the times will be long. Meanwhile, about ten bodies have already been found in the sea, half recognized. And the Genoa Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation for negligent landslide.

The fears

In the morning the inspection took place with the help of drones that the Liguria Region made available after the collapse of the cliff. In addition to the survey of the whole area, an inspection by sea with photographic relief was also carried out. The Regional Councilor for Infrastructure Giacomo Giampedrone explains: «In the upper part some volumes in precarious balance have been highlighted on which some chapels of the cemetery and some niches on which we are thinking about to avoid further collapses that must be safely demolished. There is a part of the rock wedge near the belvedere which could be affected by further detachments ».

Fragile territory

«When you have a heavy legacy in a fragile territory like the Ligurian one and the atmospheric events become more and more penalizing and aggressive – observes Carlo Civelli, president of the Liguria Order of Geologists – it is obvious that we are regularly talking about these things. It is an almost banal speech, but I never tire of repeating it: we need to invest in prevention, but prevention supported by timely studies and not done at random depending on how the funding arrives “.
