After New York and London, it’s Milan’s turn… on the Internet. Also for this season, due to the pandemic aggravated by the spread of the Covid variants, the Milan fashion week dedicated to women will be held mainly in digital format. An extensible format, which allows you to accommodate an extra large program with a total of 140 events that will reveal the collections for autumn / winter 2021-22.
The Milanese week will be held from Tuesday 23 February to Monday 1 March. But it is Wednesday that will come alive with the start of the fashion shows: the calendar lists no less than 68 appointments, while the rest of the program includes 65 presentations and 7 events, including a great evening organized by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion (CNMI ) for opening. Appointment on the 24th evening, with the DJs of the famous Milanese nights “Club Domani” … on the Web, in complete safety.
Between the shows, only two will be physically held. The first, Wednesday, is that of Daniel Del Core, former celebrity stylist for Gucci, who for the occasion launches his brand Del Core. The second, which will close the week on Monday 1 March together with Dolce & Gabbana, will be that of Valentino, which will take place behind closed doors at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, thus giving the famous theater the opportunity to exceptionally reopen its doors after a year lockdown.
In addition to the two physical fashion shows, among the most anticipated events there is the presentation of the first women’s clothing collection designed by Kim Jones for Fendi, on Wednesday, and on Saturday the first collection created by Alessandro Dell’Acqua for the curvy brand Elena Mirò, which returns to the Milanese calendar after ten years.
Beyond the absence of Versace, who decided to present his collection online on March 5, overlapping with the Paris Fashion Week, and that of Gucci, now positioned outside the official calendars, the big pieces of Made in Italy They will be present; many with innovative videos or formats.
Antonio Marras, for example, made a film in the prehistoric nuragic complex of Barumini, in Sardinia, which will be presented on Friday. On the same day, Marni will multiply by three, calling the public to discover its collection in three moments, “breakfast”, “lunch” and “dinner”, in the morning, at noon and in the evening. On Saturday Giorgio Armani will present his collection with two distinct short films, one dedicated to women and the other to men. Another novelty, for the first time in Milan, is the collective video of a selection of twenty students from Polimoda Firenze.
Fourteen new names have entered the fashion show calendar, starting with Pierre-Louis Mascia, a French fashion illustrator who in 2007 launched his own maison with Achille Pinto from Como, who today owns the majority of the company. Mascia will make his debut in Milan on Friday.
In addition to Del Core and Alessandro dell’Acqua x Elena Mirò, Brunello Cucinelli, the collective “We are Made in Itay” (Black Lives Matter in Italian Fashion- Collective), the fashion little sister of Asics, will also make their debut on the Milanese catwalks. Onitsuka Tiger, Fabio Quaranta, a regular at men’s shows, and Maxivive, the androgynous brand founded in 2007 by Papa Oyeyemi, a Lagos-based stylist famous for his experimental approach.
Milan Fashion Week will also be an opportunity to discover Dima Leu, a young Moldavian talent who made his debut in Milan last month with the man; Hyun-min Han’s Korean label Münn; the Budapest Select group show, dedicated to young Hungarian creatives; the new brand by Alessandro Vigilante, passed through Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Philosophy; and that of Christian Boaro, CHB, which the stylist, who boasts a wealth of experience (Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Ferré, MSGM), launched in full lockdown. Without forgetting the arrival on the Milanese catwalks of Giuseppe Buccinnà, an engineer by training and promising talent of Made in Italy, who founded his brand in 2015.
Finally, among the presentations, some of which will be organized in presence with buyers and journalists in compliance with current regulations, it is worth noting the debut in Milan of Moorer, Gonçalo Peixoto, Alabama Muse, Bacon, Push Button for Fila Korea, Peserico, Yatay, Canadian, Oof Wear, Revenant RV NT, AC9, Des Phemmes and Nervi.
