The European Commission has approved a amendment to the second contract with the Moderna pharmaceutical company for the activation, on behalf of all EU member states, of 150 million additional doses in 2022 of vaccines adapted to virus variants, pediatric and booster vaccines. The contract guarantees delivery from the third quarter of 2021 to the end of 2022, with the possibility of adapting it to the needs of each Member State according to their epidemiological situation.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved two sites for the production of Comirnaty, the Covid-19 vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer. The EMA communicates it in a note. The first plant, located in Reinbek, Germany, is managed by Allergopharma. The other site is in Stein, Switzerland and is operated by Novartis. “The two new sites should support the continued supply of Comirnaty in the European Union”, reads the note, which reminds us that the recommendation does not require a Commission decision and is therefore already operational.
