CASSACCO. They lived for each other. Always. Together they had learned over the years to live with a degenerative genetic disease. Alessandro was there for Sabrina and Sabrina was there for Alessandro. To take care of them, to support them, there was their mother Rita, for all Agnese, the rock of the Antonelli family who resides in Cassacco. All three had contracted Covid. All three had been hospitalized. But Alessandro and Sabrina didn’t make it. And mom Rita had to say goodbye to them forever 44 days apart.
Saturday 3 April Sabrina, 55, an employee of the post office in Udine, had felt ill and had been hospitalized in the Udine hospital where she had tested positive for the coronavirus. Alessandro, 58, an employee of the Misericordia di Udine until the disease had granted it to him, and his mother had instead been transferred to San Daniele, also positive. Alessandro can’t make it: his heart stops beating on April 13th. Rita and Sabrina, who is later transferred to the emergency area in Palmanova, continue to struggle in the hospital for another weeks. But in this battle Rita is left alone: her daughter dies on May 27th. “It’s a pain that you can’t even explain,” he says. “A pain that doesn’t make me speak, that still breaks my heart,” he adds. Rita, who turned 82 two days after leaving her daughter, entrusts the story to her niece Barbara. “It was a tragedy for our whole family – he explains -. In this painful journey we have met real angels, nurses, doctors and all those who work in the hospitals of Udine, San Daniele and Palmanova who have always assisted us with great humanity and professionalism, showing patience and understanding ».
«Now our thoughts are for Aunt Rita – continues Barbara – who, despite her difficult life and the many sacrifices, was a rock. She dedicated herself to her children with infinite love, always putting the good of others before her needs. They lived for each other. They fought together, they supported each other, they gave each other strength. And now we will take care of supporting it in this difficult moment ».
A life together, side by side that of Alessandro and Sabrina. Even on the day of farewell, which took place yesterday, with the burial in the cemetery of Terzo d’Aquileia. A mother’s farewell to her “beloved children, to them who were my life”.
