RAIN OF SACK. Covid-19 forced him to stay in hospital for five months and when he realized that his strength was definitely failing, he wanted to spend the last few days at home, with loved ones. Over the weekend, 83-year-old Pasquale Chellin passed away. Widower since 2012 of his beloved wife Renata Puato, he left his children Andrea, Michela and Alessandra.
Originally from Arzerello, he was the eldest of eleven brothers among whom was Ivano, the well-known restaurateur and founder of Botta and Meridiana, well-known and appreciated places in the area, who passed away at the age of 66 just a year ago. Pasquale was well known in the city for having worked for over thirty years in the secretariat of the committee of the Red Cross of Padua. Retired in excellent health, during the Christmas holidays Chellin had unfortunately contracted a very aggressive form of the virus that had immediately forced him to be hospitalized for about forty days, intubated, in the intensive care unit of the city hospital.
With the passage of weeks and months he was then transferred to allotment but his physique was so marked by the virus that other pathologies began to arise which inexorably weakened him more and more. «As often happened in the past in large families», his children recall him affectionately, «Dad had been sent to boarding school in Piedmont, specifically in Casale Monferrato. This life path, together with his work in the Red Cross, led him to have an aptitude for solidarity, altruism and volunteering ».
DEDICATED TO OTHERS
«He has always dedicated himself to others, also collaborating with Caritas. The 1976 Gemona earthquake remained in his heart, where he went to the forefront to help the population ». The children are sincerely convinced that the care they received from their father was the best possible. “We thank publicly for the excellent work”, they add, “the doctors, nurses and operators of the Immaculate Conception hospital in Piove di Sacco because thanks to their professionalism they sent our father home with us for a last farewell”.
Pasquale Chellin’s funeral will be celebrated this afternoon at 3.30 pm in the Duomo. Alessandro Cesarato
