Florence, June 4, 2021 – Good news in the fight against coronavirus: the covid center closes by Careggi, the ward that had been prepared precisely to cope with the many hospitalizations in the dark days of the infection, in the days of the third wave that led, at its peak, almost two thousand hospitalizations simultaneously in all Tuscany. The closure of the covid center was announced by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella with a tweet.

The Careggi covid center had been opened at the end of October 2020. The works had started in April of last year. The center was born by converting the Surgical Clinics pavilion to cope with the many covid hospitalizations that in recent months have also affected the province of Florence. There are 72 beds in the covid center, of which 14 in intensive care. For an investment of approximately one million and two hundred thousand euros between expenses for equipment and structural adjustments.
As of June 4, 446 hospitalized for covid in Tuscany. A number that drops significantly week after week. On May 20 alone, 877 people were hospitalized.
