The first phase of the vaccination plan for the population residing in the smaller islands of Sardinia was concluded in Sant’Antioco, a project born from the agreement between the Regions and the commissioner for the Covid emergency.
On the island of Sulcis, 87% of vaccinable subjects received at least the first dose. In six days 7,635 people were vaccinated, adding to the 2,500 citizens already immunized before the start of the campaign for the smaller islands.
The administrations will continue with the second phase, for the completion of the vaccination cycle. It will then start again from La Maddalena, on June 5th, and will continue with Carloforte and then arrive again in Sant’Antioco, for the conclusion.
“We have supported since the beginning the importance of the plan for mass vaccination in the smaller islands – declares the President of the Region, Christian Solinas – and the citizens have responded strongly, showing great responsibility. With the completion of the administration of the first doses to the population of our islands we have reached a significant milestone, made possible thanks to the collaboration between civil and military institutions, the great commitment of the operators of our health system and the precious participation of the world of volunteering “.
“The entire organizational system – comments the regional health councilor, Mario Nieddu, satisfied – developed for vaccinations in La Maddalena, Carloforte and Sant’Antioco, proved to be effective and efficient. Mass immunization represents a an important opportunity for the smaller islands of Sardinia, both to overcome the disadvantages of double insularity, and from a more general perspective that allows us to consolidate the great results achieved on an epidemiological level. Covid still represents a threat and for this reason it is essential to continue to keep the attention threshold high “.
