The commissioner Pierluigi Lopalco announces that the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Puglia and Basilicata has identified two cases of Indian variant of SARS-CoV-2 on Indian citizens returned to Puglia from India.
The Zooprophylactic Institute has isolated the virus in the laboratory, this means that the characteristics of the variant can be analyzed in more detail and, above all, the efficacy of vaccines against this variant can be verified.
“All the contacts of these cases – declares the commissioner Lopalco – they have already been identified by the prevention department and quarantined. It is very important to have isolated the virus because this will allow further studies on the ability of vaccine immunity to block this variant as well. Puglia makes the virus isolated in the laboratory available to the international scientific community “.
