Vaccine record in Italy: for the first time, Italy reaches the milestone of 15 million vaccinations anti-Covid administered. And while Minister Speranza announces the new date of immunization for under 60s, the other good news is that the EU has communicated that more doses than expected will arrive, 6.5 million more doses.

Record vaccines in Italy

We have gone from 150 thousand to 350 thousand vaccinations, as explained by the Minister for Regional Affairs Maria Stella Gelmini. 15 million administrations, 1 million in the last three days alone, registering an acceleration while 70% of Italians, underlined the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, were in the red zone.

87.2% of the doses delivered to the Regions have been administered to date, and over 400,000 doses of Moderna vaccine arrived in the national hub of Pratica di Mare have been transferred. The goal set by Commissioner Figliuolo is to arrive between the end of April and the beginning of May at 450-500 thousand doses per day.

Herd immunity, when?

“After the initial difficulties, the Regions are running on priority categories, they are vaccinating at a fast pace”. This, assures Gelmini, will allow us to reach theherd immunity between August and September. A fact that, however, today seems a mirage according to experts. On this basis Draghi and his team have built the first pieces of the road map of the reopening. A point of balance, necessary, “a reasoned risk” called the premier.

But the situation of the epidemic in Italy, albeit slightly improving because it is a reflection of infections occurred in the last 10 days of March, it is by no means reassuring. Employment in intensive care (39%) and that in medical areas (41%) still remain clearly above the critical threshold.

The decrease ofweekly incidence (160.5 per 100 thousand inhabitants versus 210.8 last week), theRt in calo a 0,85 and the general decrease in risk for the Regions must be interpreted with caution, explains the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in its latest monitoring, because the numbers are influenced by low number of swabs carried out during the Easter holidays.

The Rt index of the Regions

In the period 24 March-6 April the average contagion index Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 0.85 (range 0.71-0.97), down compared to the previous week and below 1 also in the limit higher.

Two Regions (Sicily and Valle d’Aosta) have a transmissibility compatible with a scenario of type 2. But here are all the Rt indices in detail.
