Palazzago. “We are pleased to inform citizens that the Prefect of Bergamo has issued the decree for the filing of the sanctions of 400 euros each, sprayed by the Mapello police on four citizens of Palazzago for having gone, close to their municipal boundaries and with our ordinance in hand, to shop in April 2020 “. The mayor of Palazzago writes it on Facebook, Michele Jacobelli (League).
These were the dramatic (and rather confusing) days of the first Covid wave, and some sparks had flown among the mayors of the island. The reason for the dispute was the fines (four ascertained) inflicted on as many citizens of Palazzago who had chosen the Hypercoop of the Continente di Mapello shopping center for shopping.
“In our area there are only four groceries and a discount, too small to meet the needs of a town of 4,500 inhabitants – explained Jacobelli to Bergamonews -. For this reason, also following the directives sent by the Prefecture – he specifies – I took the liberty of indicating to my citizens two supermarkets in two neighboring municipalities for the biggest expenses “. The Conad of Almenno San Bartolomeo and the Ipercoop of Mapello, explicitly mentioned in a trade union ordinance dated 23 March. A suggestion that the colleague from Mapello did not like Alessandra Locatelli, fearful of “unjustified gatherings” – so she had declared – within her municipality.
“The prefectural decree for filing the contested sanctions – concludes the mayor Jacobelli – recalls its own interpretative circular, with retroactive effect, no. 31809 of 9.04.2020 (read it here) which clarified how the movements for food supplies were also allowed in neighboring municipalities when all basic necessities are not found in their own territory “.
