Israel could achieve herd immunity against Covid-19 within two months. Officials of the Israeli Ministry of Health are convinced of this, cited by the public broadcaster Kan, who link the goal to the country’s ability to keep the pace of vaccinations high. In that case “there is a good chance that within the next month or two we will reach a situation that is very similar to herd immunity,” they said.
According to officials, tens of thousands of Israelis will test positive for Covid-19 in the coming weeks while many will receive the third dose of the vaccine. The combination, the sources argue, will make over 80% of the population relatively protected from the virus, returning the country to a situation similar to that of early June, that is, before the spread of the delta variant. The latest studies reported by Channel 13 claim that people who have received the third dose are 96% protected from Covid-19.
