AAA cellarman wanted. There are no seasonal workers for bars, restaurants and hotels and the situation is becoming dramatic. But it is no better for agricultural businesses, especially if they produce wine from the Marca. In fact, 50 percent of the over 300 wineries located in the Opitergino Mottense and in the left Piave (Vazzola, Mareno di P., San Polo) are looking for the figure of the cellarman. At one time it was limited to the decanting of wine and all those works from harvest to bottling.
Today the situation has changed as explained by Professor Michele Zanardo, president of the National Committee of Dop and IGp Wines for the Ministry of Agricultural Policies: «We work with biotechnologies and high-tech machinery, we are far from the figure of a few decades ago. We need people trained for our economic fabric and we are working with schools to give answers to our entrepreneurs ».
A job in recent years that has seen the strong presence of foreigners, especially Slavs and Albanians, as confirmed by Gigi Peruzzetto from the Casa Roma company in San Polo di Piave: “Many colleagues have had positive experiences with these guys from the countries of the former block Soviet. Today kids prefer to work outdoors in the fields. It is true that a lot of work is done in the cellar, especially in the months of September and October, but the cellarman represents the heart of the company ». On average, the salary ranges from 1200 to 1600 euros (depending on the size of the company)
Umberto Bigai (Tenimenti Bigai) since 1587 (but certainly active before) a wine producer in Barco di Pravisdomini and with vineyards on the eastern border of the Marca, he has no doubts: «In almost 500 years of work, the figure of the cellarman has been central. I share this alarm and we must team up together also as regards the training of young people ».
