Stop the recalls. At least for now. The Lombardy Region had to – regardless of one’s will – temporarily suspend the recalls of the anti covid vaccine for the under 60s who received the first dose of AstraZeneca and who had the second appointment in these days.
The decision was made necessary because the Pirellone will have to reorganize all the calendars ready after the “peremptory” ban on the use of Anglo-Swedish serum for women and men under 60.
What happened with AstraZeneca
The case broke out on Friday, when – after the suspicious death of an 18-year-old in Liguria – the CTS decided to restrict the field of use of AstraZeneca. “From tomorrow, Saturday 12 June, according to the provisions of the Scientific Technical Committee, the second doses to those over 60 vaccinated with Astrazeneca will be made with the same vaccine. The recalls of people under 60 vaccinated in the first dose with Astrazeneca will instead be carried out with another vaccine “, said the general direction of Welfare in a statement.
On Saturday morning, the situation had changed again. “Pending an official note from the Ministry of Health and Aifa, competent to issue a scientific opinion, and in order to protect citizens’ health as much as possible and guarantee their rights, the Directorate-General for Welfare has decided to cautiously suspend the heterologous boosters, therefore with a different vaccine, for all citizens under 60 who received the first dose of AstraZeneca. For those over 60, nothing changes “, Pirellone explained.
In the afternoon, then, the latest version, the definitive one. “In light of the circular from the Ministry of Health and the related Aifa opinion, the Lombardy Region will administer the second dose of vaccine to citizens under 60 vaccinated with AstraZeneca in the first dose, to heterologous administration, ie with Pfizer or Moderna vaccine”
Calls suspended (necessarily)
But here is the problem. “The reorganization of the vaccination program – underlined the region – will take place in the short time required on the basis of the vaccine doses available”.
Evidently now the Pirellone will have to be able to find new spaces and new doses for the Lombards who will have to receive Pfizer or Moderna and who instead should have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca. It is clear that it is not easy, also because the vaccination campaign always continues according to the doses available. However, the region has already made it known that those who had the appointment for the recall with AstraZeneca in these days will soon receive the text message with the new date.
