TURIN. The drugs arrive in the mail. This is the stratagem adopted by a criminal group dismantled by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command. Six people, five Italians and one Albanian, were joined by precautionary measures; one in prison, two under house arrest and four signature obligations. They trafficked astonishingly from Spain, mostly hashish and marijuana, making it arrive in Italy and then directly home via postal couriers. The journey was monitored via GPS, so as to be able to check the route and any ‘hitches’.
From the investigation, conducted by the carabinieri of the San Carlo company, it emerged that the group used official couriers. The recipient’s address was real, but the name was made up. In order not to attract attention a few minutes before the courier arrived, a false label was placed on the building’s push-button panel so as to allow delivery.
Investigators discovered apartments rented online ad hoc to receive the packages and one delivered was made to the grandmother’s home of one of the suspects. The disputed crimes date back between May 2018 and October 2019. During the investigation, coordinated by the prosecutor Roberto Furlan, a courier was arrested carrying 120 kg of marijuana, for a retail value of over one million euros, 13 55 kg of drugs and a stolen gun were seized.
