The growing numbers of Bergamo tourism encourage investment. To facilitate the recovery, the project was born Fly to Bergamo which offers three nights for the price of two to tourists who land in Orio and stay in one of the affiliated accommodation facilities. It is an initiative developed by Visit Bergamo, Sacbo and Accademia Carrara, with the support of Ascom and Confesercenti Bergamo: it will be valid until October 31st.
“But if it is successful, it could be extended until the end of the year”, explains the CEO of Visit Bergamo, Christophe Sanchez. Those who join will also receive (from Sacbo) the fast track for the return flight for the whole family, the entrance ticket to the Carrara and a bottle of vino Valcalepio white or red of your choice (offered by Visit Bergamo). In this way we try to encourage long-range international and national tourism and to extend the stay, to increase the economic induced on the territory.
To join the initiative, the tourist must choose the structure in which to stay through the site www.flytobergamo.visitbergamo.net, which will be available in six languages (Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Russian). Gifts can be collected upon landing at the Visit Bergamo Information Office in the Arrivals area of Orio. So far 121 operators from different structures have joined, from hotels to holiday homes. Among the adherents, there are also 4-star hotel such as the Relais San Vigilio, the Excelsior San Marco and the Cappello d’Oro in the city, the Winter Garden Hotel, the Grand Hotel Presolana, the eighteenth century and the Grand Hotel del Parco in the province.
There are two other projects to promote recovery and build small tourism networks. One concernsthe gastronomy and Bergamo is at work with the others “Unesco creative cities for gastronomy”, Parma and Alba. «We are working – explains the mayor Giorgio Gori – to become a single tourist destination for those arriving from Europe or other continents: for them moving between Bergamo and Alba is a small shift. The combination of these three beautiful cities could represent a reason for travel that perhaps a single city could not justify ».
The second network concerns opera composers and their cities: Gaetano Donizetti (Bergamo), Giuseppe Verdi (Parma), Gioachino Rossini (Pesaro), Giacomo Puccini (Lucca) and Vincenzo Bellini (Catania). «It is a very articulated geography, which can take tourists on a journey through Italy, according to a different itinerary than the usual one that takes foreigners to Rome, Florence and Venice. There are five cities that deserve a trip. The appeal may be more direct to opera lovers, but not only. We are thus trying – adds Gori – to fill with positive contents the notoriety that the city and the Bergamo area have acquired, in spite of themselves, all over the world after the Covid affair last year. And we do this by working on multiple fronts and on different targets».
