BMW has announced that it has begun the release of a new software update which will reach a total of 1.3 million vehicles (more than 20 models) equipped with an infotainment with the iDrive 7 platform. The update will bring the operating system to version 21-03. Distribution has already started on June 1st in Germany.
The manufacturer announces that cars equipped with the iDrive 7 system produced since March 2021 already have the latest software version. Customers will be informed of the availability of the “Remote Software Upgrade” both on the My BMW App and via the car’s Control Display.
Thanks to this update, Alexa support debuts in 4 additional countries. After Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Spain and Italy, it arrives in France, USA, Canada and Brazil. People will have many of Alexa’s features available in their car. For example, you can check the news, play music or manage compatible smart home devices.
News also per BMW Maps whose use has been made even easier. Today, the navigation system offers One-Box Search which allows customers to search for addresses and places as they are used to when entering text in web search engines (with suggestions as they enter text). The manufacturer says that many customers, however, want the Search Mask on the screen to enter the destination in the traditional way (country, place, street, house number). The automaker has therefore decided to reintroduce this search in BMW Maps, which is now available to customers in added to One-Box Search.
Among the other new features of the update, the possibility to permanently save the Lane Departure Warning settings and the resolution of a problem that led to a display error when playing media via Android 11 smartphones connected via Bluetooth. Finally, the positioning of Surround View on the display of some models has been corrected.
