The Alitalia dossier causes the extraordinary administration and the top management of Italy Air Transport to quarrel. That is, the seller and the main would-be buyer of the airline’s assets. In a note sent Friday evening the commissioners correct the reconstruction given in the hearing by the newco. In the hearing before the joint Transport and Productive Activities Committees of the Chamber on Thursday, the CEO of ITA Fabio Lazzerini recalled that last January 28 a letter had been sent with an expression of interest in acquiring the aviation, handling and maintenance branch of Alitalia. But we have not received a reply to that letter.
A reconstruction that was not liked in the buildings a stone’s throw from Fiumicino airport. In relation to the declaration – we read – the extraordinary commissioners of Alitali specify that this communication expressed a generic and unsubstantiated interest in the acquisition of “assets” and not of business branches in operation, as instead required in order to integrate the program for the sale of the business complexes of Alitalia – SAI and Alitalia Cityliner. In addition – the commissioners add – this expression of interest was expressly contextualized “in the context of the dismissal procedure” whose decisions are left to the supervisory bodies of the procedure, as early as December 2020. A letter too general, in short, to have an answer .
The letter not sent
the second time in a week that the commissioners rectify the reconstruction of the interlocutions between Alitalia in extraordinary administration and Italia Trasporti Aereo. On 28 April at eleven in the evening with another note the leaders of the Italian airline intervened to provide their version regarding a letter from the newco with the proposal to purchase the aviation branch and the signing of two service supply contracts handling and maintenance. The letter was dated April 26. But, explained the note, not received so far to the special commissioners to whom it was addressed. The day after the reconstruction was confirmed by the CEO of ITA who described it as one of the ideas to break the deadlock in the negotiations for the take-off of the new company.
The meeting on May 5th
The friction between the extraordinary administration and the newco comes at a delicate moment for a company that will pay salaries late in two installments on May 3 and 4 thanks to the 52 million Covid indemnities advanced by the government (but not yet paid). And also on the eve of the urgent meeting – May 5 – between the three commissioners of Alitalia (Gabriel Fava, Giuseppe Leogrande, Daniele Santosuosso) and the unions. In the communication of 30 April – also sent for information to the Ministry of Economic Development and that of the Economy and Finance – it is written that the top management of ITA are also invited to this meeting, as requested. The presence of the newco – however – is considered particular and risks being counterproductive, they explain to Courier service two institutional sources because it could be seen by the European Commission – which investigates the two companies – as an element of business continuity.
