Petrol, diesel and gas prices (still) increase: how much they cost now

Autumn marked by rising prices, bad news for motorists: the cost of petrol, diesel and gas is still increasing. Moving and moving will affect more and more the pockets of Italians. Thus, while Europe is thinking of a solution to meet families in difficulty (here are some of the proposals against the increase in bills), the latest estimates of the Mise on the fuel front are not at all heartening.

Petrol, diesel and gas prices: the latest estimates

Estimates relative to the current costs of petrol, diesel and gas they are periodically provided by “Osservaprezzo fuels”, the site of the Ministry of Economic Development that allows you to consult in real time the selling prices of fuels, actually charged at the distribution plants located in the national territory, as communicated by the managers of the sales points weekly or in cases of midweek increases.

Here it is possible, for example, to have a general overview of the trends (and the differences) from region to region.

From the weekly average prices, Mise elaborates a weighted monthly average with the days of presence of that price during the month and, from the latest observations, it emerged that the average prices charged by the managers and communicated to the ministry based on the calculation made on almost 15 thousand plants, they are currently:

  • gas at 1,718 euros / liter in self mode, with the different brands between 1,711 and 1,728 euros / liter (no logo 1.701);
  • diesel, again in self mode, at 1,576 euros / liter with companies positioned between 1,570 and 1,588 euros / liter (no logo 1,561).

For what concern servedinstead, these are the prices:

  • gas it grows to 1,853 euros / liter, with average prices between 1,790 and 1,927 euros / liter (no logo 1,748);
  • diesel it goes to 1,720 euros / liter (yesterday 1,717) with average prices between 1,656 and 1,791 euros / liter (no logo 1,611);
  • LPG ranges from 0.797 to 0.809 euros / liter (no logo 0.785).

Finally, in monitoring they were recorded also increases on the average price of CNG for cars, which ranks between 1.465 and 1.809 (no logo 1.535).

Because fuel prices continue to rise

When it comes to wholesale fuel price it refers to how much oil costs when it leaves the refinery, or the price that retailers pay.

Oil prices plummeted at the start of the pandemic, but demand has increased in recent months as economies around the world began to reopen (figures here), leading to a sharp rise in prices. Furthermore, the shortage of truckers and delays in deliveries – often linked to the health emergency – have greatly influenced the market trend. This is because, in fact, when supply is stopped, wholesale prices increase.

And speaking of interruptions, in all this a fundamental role has played the lack of agreement between the OPEC countries (read more here) on the increase in crude oil production during the Vienna summit, held last July.

In fact, skipped the negotiations with the United Arab Emirates (whose requests were opposed mainly by Saudi Arabia) oil prices have skyrocketed.
