Turn on the microphone! become the mantra of the last two years, since the health emergency has increased remote work. People unfamiliar with technology found themselves having to attend online calls and meetings where, in the end, they could not speak and the reaction of the audience was always the same: Turn on the microphone !.
How to do
Now Microsoft has found a trick that should make our life easier. Coming soon on Teams, its video call software, bring up a new feature. Just press the combination ctrl + spacebar to speak and then, as soon as she is released, she returns mute. In short, a sort of digital walkie talkie that should put an end to that aquarium effect in which we see someone talking and getting excited while remaining perfectly soundproof.
An alternative solution
It must be said that the system it doesn’t seem very practical but it is already a step forward compared to the current situation in which we often see colleagues wandering around with the mouse pointer on the screen in search of the icon that reactivates the microphone. Then there is another solution: on the market we find several external microphones with dedicated keys that activate and reactivate the microphone. Of course, we must always remember to press them, but at least they are at hand, clearly visible and often illuminated with fluorescent colors and avoid wandering on the screen with the mouse while colleagues look at us astonished.
