City Transformer: the “foldable” electric microcar

ALMOST LIKE A MOTORCYCLE – The City Transformer (which shares its name with that of the manufacturer itself) is a small car only 250 cm long, which can accommodate two people (one behind the other, as on motorcycles). Driving the car in traditional mode, the width of the car is 140 cm (that is, not far from that of a normal car). However, just press a button on the dashboard to activate the electrical system that allows, thanks to the foldable platform, to retract the wheels by 20 cm per side, reducing the overall dimensions to 100 cm. In this way, the City Transformer becomes narrow enough to be parked in spaces reserved for motorcycles: up to four City Transformers can enter a parking lot dedicated to a “normal” car. It should be remembered, however, that when traveling in … “restricted” mode, the maximum speed is reduced, going from 90 km / h to 45.

IT HAS TWO ENGINES – The City Transformer, which was presented in its production version at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich and is built by an Israeli company, is powered by two 7.5 kW electric motors powered by a lithium-ion battery, which allows a maximum autonomy (declared) of 180 km; it can be fully charged at home in about six hours, or in 15 minutes if you connect to a public charging station. Pre-orders are already open, starting at 12,500 euros, including the battery (after the launch period, the price will rise to 16,000 euros).
