Volkswagen has a very clear objective: to bring to the market aelectric car for only 20 thousand euros. This goal corresponds to the name of what everyone has so far identified as ID.2 and, at the Munich Auto Show, the Wolfsburg house anticipated its shapes through the concept ID. LIFE.
Volkswagen ID. LIFE: an electric car worth 20 thousand euros
The plan is decidedly ambitious, and not only in the perspective of anticipating Tesla, but also because all of this will happen before 2025, which is two years earlier than the initial program. With a minimalist style, the concept ID. LIFE brought to Munich is characterized by a length of 4.09 m, width of 1.85 m and height of 1.60 m.
The vehicle based on a “mini” version of the famous MEB platform on which also the ID.3 is based. To feed the ID. LIFE we find one 62 kWh battery with a 234 HP electric motor and 290 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km / h occurs in 6.9 seconds. As for autonomy, Volkswagen declares 400 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
The wheel arches are decidedly muscular, with 20 “wheels e removable roof in black color. As for the interiors, we find another surprise: the steering wheel has the shape of a cloche (as for the Tesla Model S Plaid) and, among other things, allows you to manage infotainment and automatic transmission settings.
Inside the vehicle presents wood and alcantara finishes, aiming mainly at the younger audience. The car made in its entirety with recycled materials, with a roof made of recycled plastic bottles and painting obtained with wood shavings. The dashboard is also made from recycled wood, while the fabric on the seats and side panels is eco-friendly.
Lots of technology on board: among other things, a facial recognition system which automatically opens the doors when the driver approaches the car. Inside the car, then, a projector allows you to transform your car into a small cinema, also thanks to the reclining seats both on the front and on the rear. ID. LIFE can count, in fact, on a total of 1,285 liters between the boot and storage compartments. Instead of the traditional mirrors, then, we find cameras and displays, while the driving functions can be managed via the touch screen in the dashboard.
As with every concept, ID.LIFE also offers a lot of technology and somehow daring solutions. The purpose of the Wolfsburg house, however, is very clear: to have an electric car worth 20 thousand euros on the market as soon as possible in order to be able to sell at least 70% of electric models by 2030.
