«This road is a source of pride, it represents a bridge between past and future. It is a crossroads of cultures, a treasure for outdoor tourism, but projects dedicated to cultural, environmental and sustainable promotion are needed. And a wide-ranging strategy not only on the main axis, but also for the surrounding area ». So Federica Lanteri, mayor of Briga Alta and “hostess”, yesterday, at the Don Barbera refuge, the arrival point of the traditional e-bike ride that Conitours organizes every year to “inaugurate” the summer season of the Alta Via of the Limone-Monesi salt.

About thirty mayors, administrators, provincial and regional officials, heads of the Management Body of the Maritime Alps Protected Areas and tour operators met in the early morning at the “Le Marmotte” chalet above Limone 1400, before riding the pedal assisted electric mountain bikes and reach Don Barbera. An entire weekend (including today) closed to motor vehicles and reserved for cycle-pedestrian mobility, also for the concomitance with the “Wild e-side”, an event of Limone On dedicated to the world of e-bikes, with 55 enthusiasts arriving from all over the Granda and outside the province, even from Lombardy. They were joined by other lovers of two wheels, many arrived at the start of the Limone-Monesi on the Cabanaira chairlift, reopened just yesterday and the only lift that will operate in the summer. Along the way, they were able to find the success of the restoration works of the former military, damaged by 14 landslides in 18 km during the flood of 2-3 October. «We immediately got to work before the snow arrived – said the deputy mayor of Limone, Rebecca Viale -, to respect the opening of the summer season. This breathtaking route is designed for green tourism, the paid regulated accesses for cars and motorcycles (15 euros) bring important resources for maintenance, but clash with the philosophy of environmental sustainability ». “We want bicycles – he added – and with the Tenda ko, the crucial node is the train, but on the Cuneo-Ventimiglia line, the trains have just 4 places for transporting bikes, when at least one dedicated wagon would be needed”.
