Maxi outbreak after the holidays. The health authorities of different regions of Spain have recorded dozens of cases of Covid among young people returning from stays in Mallorca that occurred after the end of school, in the period between 12 and 20 June. This was reported by various Iberian media. “We are following the situation in detail, it is an important number of infected people”, confirmed at a press conference the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, who specified that for now there have been no worrying cases among the sick, given that they are “young people”.

Maxi outbreak in Mallorca: at least 350 positive cases
According to the newspaper El Pas, at least 350 cases have been reported in six regions: most of them are boys living in the Madrid area, who tested positive after returning from Mallorca. Organizing group holidays in the week immediately following the end of school, especially by students who have just passed the high school diploma, is a common practice in Spain.
Mallorca is one of the hottest destinations for such stays. Media on the island say local authorities have tried to create reserved areas for the hundreds of young people arriving to avoid outbreaks among local residents. The region of the Balearic Islands has communicated that for now no infections have been recorded in the resident population linked to the outbreak among students. Darias asked young people for “responsibility” because most of them have not yet been vaccinated and at this moment they are the most exposed to contagion.
