The center right united in one party. This is the idea expressed in recent days by Silvio Berlusconi, which had proposed the creation of the “Party of the Italian center-right”, going beyond the federation launched by Matteo Salvini. A vision that had been considered a possible “goal.” long-term“by the leader of the League, while meeting the skepticism of Giorgia Meloni. But now, it seems that already by 2023 we could see the creation of a movement that unites Forza Italia, Lega and Fratelli d’Italia.
In recent days, Berlusconi had already stressed that the project was intended “in view of the policies of 2023“so much so that Antonio Tajani had pointed out how the former prime minister was anticipating”a vision of the center-right of the future“. A future that could arrive within a few years. Even today, in fact, the Knight has relaunched the date of the 2023 for the realization of the single party. “With Giorgia and Matteo we are doing an excellent job and I am sure that we will also be able to have a good result in the municipal elections“, he explained in a telephone connection to the presentation of the presidential candidate of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto. Then, referring to the future of Forza Italia, Lega and Fratelli d’Italia, he added:”We are working well with Salvini and I believe that between now and 2023 we will certainly be able to build a the only party of the center-right, a ‘republican party’ like the American one, in which the center and the democratic right come together to govern the country“. And the name is ready:”We called it: the Italian Center Right “.
The idea of creating a single movement that brings together the forces of the center right is not new. The Cav, in fact, revealed that he had thought of this solution from the beginning of his political career: “I dream from the beginning of my descent into the field – he told- a political movement that can represent the majority of Italians and that can give stability to the center-right government“. An objective to be achieved gradually, starting from the federation hypothesized by Salvini, and then converging towards the single party. Still in doubt about the Cav proposal, however, Giorgia Meloni, who yesterday reiterated:”I think it will unify parties that have a compatibility, but one different identity, you risk losing more than what you earn and that in the situation in which Italy finds itself today, frankly, the theme of parties seems secondary to me“.
A statement that has not undermined the climate of collaboration within the center-right and that does not mean a total closure. “This pandemic – concluded the leader of Forza Italia –it has changed a lot of our society and our habits and I believe that the party system will also change, the system of political representation. And I am sure that this drive for unity will also come from these elections in Calabria“.
