The 5 Star Movement is in “total stalemate” and “chaos” reigns. The knot of the dispute concerns the new grillino statute, on which came the break between Giuseppe Conte and Beppe Grillo, who feels downsized by the new rules. The event-presentation of the statute was canceled and postponed, as well as the face-to-face between the two leaders of the Cinquestelle was postponed. As a source reports to Corriere della Sera, “we sail on sight, for sure the next steps are postponed”.
The tension is palpable, even if facing Conte trying to put out the fire: “No anxiety, this is a normal conversation. It is obvious that the essential condition for this project to go through is that Beppe Grillo is still fully convinced of it. There is no downsizing of the role of the guarantor ”. But the reality is different and the negotiations between the two go on, speaking to each other through lawyers and mediators. The slowdowns lead to several problems for the M5S, including the one ahead of the local elections. If there is no publication of the rules by June 25 – and according to Corsera this deadline will not be respected even for the most optimistic about the resolution of the internal conflict -, the birth of the new Movement risks being postponed to the second half of July. Time is running out and the Conte-Grillo axis is increasingly on fire.
