Cyberpunk 2077 is back available its PlayStation Store, as anticipated in recent days by both Sony and CD Projekt RED, but after all this time it is legitimate to wonder what the future of the ambitious game developed by the Polish studio.
In fact, six months have passed since Cyberpunk 2077 was removed from the PS Store due to the well-known problems related to the launch on the previous generation consoles, in particular an optimization process to say the least incomplete.
Cyberpunk 2077 was presented with its official title back in 2012: after waiting for it for years, between one postponement and another, the owners of PS4 e Xbox One they found in their hands a product studded with more or less serious technical flaws, to the point of making these versions of memes become.
The resounding decision to remove the game from PlayStation Store was driven by the growing number of requests for reimbursement that Sony was not used to receiving, and so for the Japanese house there were no alternatives: Cyberpunk 2077 had to be put aside, at least until the authors had solved its many problems.
After a public apology from CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski, the team embarked on a slow but convinced work process aimed at finally fixing the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, reaching at least minimum quality standards.
We do not know whether to date this purpose can be said to be achieved: it all depends on what the users’ expectations were and on the ability of the Polish studio to satisfy them, at least partially. What certainly corresponds to the truth is that the company led by Kicinski, Iwinski and Nielubowicz has suffered a severe damage from this whole story.
The wound should not be sought exclusively in the financial documents of CD Projekt RED, which also mark a sharp decline in sales in the first quarter of 2021, but also and above all in the previously immaculate reputation of the studio, which until now enjoyed the utmost trust by everyone, critics and audiences.
Waiting to be able to touch the long-awaited next-gen update of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, it is clear that a sword of Damocles hangs over the future of the development team and it will not be easy to trust their statements about the quality of the projects before having actually seen them in action.
For such talented and passionate developers, such a prospect certainly hurts more than the lost revenue from selling the game on PlayStation Store. What do you think of this situation? How does the future of CD Projekt RED look like? Let’s talk about.
