Europeans, it will be Italy-Austria in the second round: Baumgartner sinks Ukraine
Austria, the path in these Europeans
The Austrian European Championship started with a convincing 3-1 victory against North Macedonia with goals from Lainer, Gregoritsch and Arnautovi ?. On the second day, however, came the stop against the Netherlands who beat the Austrians 2-0. The third and final match of Group C against Ukraine with equal points and an advantage for goal difference was therefore fundamental: the only option to move to the second round for Franco Foda’s team was the victory that came 1-0 with the fundamental goal by Baumgartner. This is already the best result for Austria at the European Championships: in the other participations of 2008 and 2016 they stopped at the group stage.
